School Board Bans Book About Russia

Identifier:
Title: School Board Bans Book About Russia
Description: This newspaper clipping highlights the ‘bookburning’ issue taking place in New Hyde Park during the 1950s. Maude Wildigg caused a stir when, without permission, she took the book “Russia” by Vernon Ives from Hillside Grade School and refused to return it, labeling it ‘subversive’. The School Board that presides over Hillside Grade School had previously ruled NOT to ban the book, but reversed it’s ruling, temporarily banning it within its schools.
