Title: School Board Bans Book About Russia
Description: This newspaper clipping highlights the ‘bookburning’ issue taking place in New Hyde Park during the 1950s. Maude Wildigg caused a stir when, without permission, she took the book “Russia” by Vernon Ives from Hillside Grade School and refused to return it, labeling it ‘subversive’.
